Compare and Contrast of Gogol and Rachel from The Girl who Fell

Summary to a Sequel:
Gogol has a new job as a architect. In this new sequel to The Namesake. Gogol faces troubles with a mysterious girl he met on the train and what happens where old memories come back. But also family troubles of finding out the past of his father. This book shows how much things can change in a year and how in the end things always find a way of sorting themselves out.

Deleted scene (goes in at the end of Chapter 7):
Ashima sat alone in a library with no one around. Ashoke would be at work and Gogol would be off at school or work. She could hear the silence of the empty library. She wondered what her father would be doing. If her mother was alright. The smell of books reminded Ashima of Ashoke. She sat her spot for a while before getting up and take a look around the quiet place. As she walked through the shelves and shelves of old books. She keeps walking, but then her foot hit something. She bends down to pick up the thing that happens to be a book. Surprisingly it was a book from the author Nikolai Gogol. She took the book back to where she was sitting and began to read until it was almost time for closing. She left the book where she was sitting. In that silent library that reminded her of her husband.

I am very real- freewrite

I think that Vonneguts response to the burning of his books is a reasonable response because he put time and work to write a good book that showed what he wanted. He never wrote the book to get a lot of money. You can defiantly tell by his tone that he wasn't happy about the event. Also people should destroy something just because they say its against what they think. people should read and listen to multiple different views because if you do then you get to understand something you might not have before. And if you do disagree with the point of view then you become smarter and you can use the information you learned to prove your own point. yo

The rhetorical question in paragraph 3 reveals .  By framing this as a question, Vonnegut is __ .

I agree with the quote "They try to teach you that we don’t belong here." because personally i feel like that's true. Learning history in elementary school and middle school i learned about different culture like hey were savages or dead. When both of those statements are wrong. In school i felt like some cultures and people were written about like they weren't even human that they were animals.

I disagree with "Race studies teaches students to hate America." because being a Korean adoptee that knows little of the Korean culture and history i feel like that say i cant learn about the culture my birth parents were from and if i learn about it i will be anti-american and ill be trying to take down america. I personally believe that what ever culture or race it is everyone has the right to learn more about it. Just because your learning about a different culture doesn't mean your going to be anti-american and hate america.

Final poem

The pain makes things hard to do
and the worry for family makes you strong
I wish that you could wake up and things would be better
I wonder what it was like for you
Walking through the halls of your kindergarten year
The smell of summer reminds me of you
I want to see your smiling face
Your happy face makes me feel like I have butterflies in my stomach

things fall apart AP prompt

paragraph 1
symbol :wrestling- similarities of wrestling and how he runs the house.

Okonkwo shows connections between him wrestling and him running the house. In the book at the beginning wrestling is a important thing to show you are a man. Okonkwo is the best wrestler around and is really strong. You see the similarity of wrestling and how Okonkwo runs the house in the line. "Okonkwo ruled his house with a heavy hand. his wives, especially the youngest, lived in perpetual fear of his fiery temper, and so did the children". (Achebe, 13) His family being so scared of upsetting him proves that his temper or drive when he fights shows up in his daily life. Also to add you see how good of a wrestler but also they talk about in later chapters that he beats his wifes. Which Okonkwo being so violent during wrestling having to completely change his mind set would be difficult because hes such a strong person and has certain views.

Things Fall Apart Micro labs

-It shows how much a family has to spend on a wedding. and that a marriage isn't exactly a small thing, its well planned and the family kinda treats trying to figure out the bridal price like business. How many wifes you had could be a sign of wealth or power.

-women having children is a good thing. but if your not able to have children people believe her children was cursed with an evil.

-its says the women look on like outsiders. the wife that was being beat by her husband was supported in a way because they did say its not bravery to beat a women and they did say it was bad to be beating your wife. but i dont think him just going to beg for his wife to return is enough punishment.

-nwoye was suprised it seems and sad that Ikemefuna was leaving. Nwoye knows he should be more manly but it seems that hes naturally not very manly.

The Danger of a Single Story: post

1. I've meet people and they talk about a certain group of people. and they say only one point of view, and they talk about the people like their aliens, but they don't know that the people their talking about is only a small percentage of the total population of that group of people.

2. I've noticed I have applied a "single story" when i don't know a lot about something, i don't always notice it at the time but once i learn more about something i notice what i knew was wrong and i feel bad about myself because I'm sure when some people see me they see one story and they don't think that i might have a story different from what they think i have.
3.
A single story has the power to create a stereotype and change how people look at something(which can be good and bad). But people should try and look deeper and get more information, not just listen to one story. A single story can inspire someone or give them new hope, but a single story can also break someone down and shatter their universe. So depending on the story and the person listening or reading the story it can have different affects.

Poem #1: home

  • My home smells like old house mixed with the faint smell of dog, along with something cooking.
  • People work on computer, a pencil and pen writing on a page, or a book in front of them.
  • People gather in the kitchen or very back room on the bottom floor.
  • Laurel ave. and prior
  • somtimes you hear the yelling of people or frustrated noises of a french man and long sighs from his wife.
  • 10pm on a Saturday night you hear the tv on some gory show and the growling and barking of a little dachshund worried that her owners will be taken away.
  • important historical figures or events is
  • slang you hear is mostly french or english and somtimes both mixed.
  • i fear of not meeting my parents and my own goals.
  • they hope for a good life for me.

My home changes with her my family goes.
When you enter there's the smell of old house mixed with the faint smell of dog and cooking.
You will see people furiously typing away like their racing, the sound of pencil hitting paper, and pages of a school book turning.
In the cold winter days you find people around the kitchen where the heat of the stove warms the room.
Where you find all this is on Laurel ave and Prior, and the house with the red door.
On days where it seems like a storm has decided to stay right above our house you hear a frustrated french man and the sighs of his wife.
The fear in the house is like a cliff, where you hear the whispers about college and money all around.  But there's always someone to bring you away from the edge.
If you look in on a Saturday night at 10pm you see a french man, his wife and his daughter in front of the TV watching some show while the wife comments about how weird it is. then tries and calms the nervous little dachshund who thinks something will taker her owners away.
Like a map my family travels life pondering and wondering, so my home goes where my family goes.

poetry

1. In my opinion poetry is like painting but in words. To some poetry might be hard but for others it comes as natural as walking or eating.
2. I have always liked reading poetry, even if i didn't understand certain words or the deeper meaning of the piece. My mother has been an english and art teacher. Even though she never really spoke about poetry some of the things I've learn from her and school have helped me to understand poetry and like it.
3. I think its survived for so long because all you need to create poetry is your own mind and possibly a way to write. You don't really need fancy tools to make poetry and its a simple but good way to put your feelings to life. There's also a lot of different types of poetry.
